How to See Restricted Friends List on Facebook

Each time I post on my Facebook account, a certain alert message comes up with “friends except restricted” but I have no “restricted” list on the left-hand side of the screen where lists appear, so i don’t understand this again.

We have all had to accept Facebook friend requests from people we’d rather not share intimate details of our day-to-day lives with, whether that’s your boss, a slightly creepy acquaintance, or even your mom.

Did you know you could set up a “restricted” list on Facebook that prevents list members from seeing content you deliberately make public?

We had a look at how to create and manage such a list so that you can stay Facebook friends with someone without letting them see every single little activity you get up to.

Head to the Facebook profile page of the person you want to add to your restricted list. Click on the “Friends” drop-down box that appears at the bottom right of their cover photo. Select the option “Add to another list.”

Now, click on the “Restricted” setting that appears on the next menu. This should embolden the text and put a checkmark next to it.

Now, when you next post content, you can decide whether you want it to be public content or just for the eyes of your Facebook friends.

To change this privacy setting as you post, click on the drop-down box at the bottom of your pending post and select the option that suits your content.

If you select “Friends”, the people on your restricted list will not see the post. If you choose “Public,” they will.

This is a good method of making sure certain people only see posts you’re willing to make public.

I did have a restricted list age ago but now I cannot find it.

If you cannot find the restricted list on your Facebook account, relax as we will help you out here. The Facebook restricted Friends Lists is in your Blocking Settings.

Putting someone on the Restricted list means that you’re still friends, but that you only share your posts with them when you choose Public as the audience, or when you tag them in the post.

Did you just meet a friend you thought was an angel, and then you add your new friend to your Facebook friend’s list, and now you’re regretting it because he floods your timeline with annoying updates, not too helpful posts, and even make discriminating comments on your posts and above all, you’re now thinking twice about every photo upload and every update you post, but still unfriending him isn’t an option.

Then you ponder on what to do? Well you are lucky to stumble upon this post today as we will put you through how you can easily restrict your friend’s access to your posts

Alternatively:

Had this problem with my girlfriend, we couldn’t figure this out. For us – in July – this is how I solved it. (FB changes their UI so often, it’s difficult to post a lasting fix, but here goes) ….

  1. On your friend’s page whose posts you can’t see, have them logged in
  2. Have them go to your profile page
  3. Click your Friends button
  4. Select “Add to another list…”
  5. See if the “Restricted” list is selected for some reason. If so, then click it again to hopefully take you off, Restricted List.
